Not Good, coating keeps chipping

Submitted by HockeyMom16 - 11/24/2019

I love the mixer, hate the coated beater. I got Kitchen Aid mixer as a gift 2 years ago and right away the coated beater started chipping. I contacted Kitchen Aid and was sent a new one so that was great but then that one started chipping too. I keep finding white chips in the bowl and a few times in my muffin, cookies, or cake batter that I am mixing. Wish I could just have a stainless steel one like the other attachment.

Beater Coating

Submitted by Scout2881 - 11/19/2019

I received the Artisan mixer as a gift. Unfortunately I didnt open the packing right away. I discovered, as others have noted that the flat beater already had a small chip out of the beater head. Obviously I will not use it! For those who, like me aren't confident that KitchenAid has this issue resolved be advised that Williams Sonoma offers a three piece STAINLESS STEEL KitchenAid attachment set. More expensive but to me worth not having coating in my families food. Love the mixer but will not use the coated attachments.

Coating has chipped off the beater!

Submitted by robinbird_ - 11/12/2019

I love the mixer itself, but I noticed that the bottom of this beater has completely chipped off. I know a lot of people have had this exact same problem. Im disappointed about it chipping, but at least I know it can be replaced and hopefully this new one won't chip.

Beater Coating Chips

Submitted by jkgmartin - 11/8/2019

We purchased our mixer with attachments 4-5 years ago, using the beater attachment maybe 8-10 times a year. The coating chipped off, ruining a recipe. I expected more from a KitchenAid product.

Son got a scrapper on his Flat Beater

Submitted by GJackie - 10/23/2019

I bought my KitchenAid Mixer a few years back. My son got one with a plain flat beater and one with a scraper on one side with his purchase of a KitchenAid mixer. Wow it was so fantastic. I cannot find the Flat Beater with the scraper as an extra attachment.

Have to Replace Beater #2 - Faulty Coating

Submitted by J1611 - 9/27/2019

We are looking to replace our second beater. Both of these were faulty due to the coating chipping off of the tip of the beater. Almost looks like the beater is to long and contacting the bowl. Too bad such a great company has so many bad reviews on this single item.

Ruined my mother's 101st birthday cake

Submitted by Beachlvr - 3/23/2019

Have noticed a couple small chips off this in the past. I was baking a birthday cake for my mother's 101st birthday. Looked at the batter & there were chunks of the mixer coating. Had to throw it out and no time to go buy a cake. Love the mixer but this attachment is not only junk but dangerous.

Wonderful machine to have especially for bakers!!

Submitted by Baker4Years - 1/10/2019

I do not have the Artisan 4.8L model. I have KitchenAid Model KSM90, an older model I have had for many years and never had to replace my flat beater as yet, until now. I just noticed after baking Christmas cookies that the beater has a chip and now I don't want to use it. I always hand wash the beater, never in dishwasher. After reading the reviews on the same accessory, I want to know whether or not there is a replacement of the same beater or would any of your newer beaters (i.e., stainless steel or beater with scraper) be compatible with my model? I do not want nor need to buy a new mixer. I wouldn't do without this machine and would recommend the KitchenAid mixer -- except for the problem with the coated flat beater!

Flaking paint on the beater

Submitted by Ronda5678 - 12/9/2018

I love this mixer, but the paint is flaking off the beater like crazy. I cannot use it as is so I was going to order a new one, but I see it has the same white coating as the old one I have. My mixer is probably 10-15 years old and it has had a few small spots that were coming off, but I just tried to use it after we moved and there are too many to even use it.

Why buy kitchenaid?

Submitted by Kar280 - 12/7/2018

My mixer and bowl was free. I purchased the coated paddle. No success; chipped. My daughter loves hers but same complaint. Looked at other brands thinking of passing on my freebie and buying my own. Stainless/dishwasher parts is significant consideration. Kitchenaid. Fix the problem

Flat beater chips

Submitted by Donna268 - 12/7/2018

I've used KitchenAid mixers for several years. My early tilting model did not suffer these issues. Since updating a few years ago to the pro-line, I've had to replace the flat beaters multiple times. They ALWAYS chip! Is KitchenAid unable to remedy this problem?

Doesn't live up to usual KitchenAid standards

Submitted by russwinaz - 12/3/2018

As you'll read in many (many!) other reviews, this attachment works just fine - until it begins to chip. And that doesn't take long, no matter how careful you are in hand-washing it. Once it starts chipping, you're faced with the worry of chips (enamel?) ending up in your food. The only alternative KitchenAid offers has no enamel coating, but it soon tarnishes and starts turning batters and doughs gray. HELLO, KITCHENAID: This has been reported and lamented for years now. Would you please respond to your gazillions of otherwise-satisfied users and offer a stainless steel version? (And while you're at it, how about discontinuing the two you offer now, since they're both unacceptably defective?)

Better than what my mixer came with

Submitted by Laurie W - 11/23/2018

I bought this because I like to put my beaters in the top rack of my dishwasher. The piece that came with the mixer oxidizes if you do that and leaves a grey/residue. This does not do that. It eventually chip and I have to buy another one. I wish I could buy a stainless steel one but I haven't found it

Great mixer, horrible chipped beater

Submitted by Pamela Jean - 11/23/2018

Why can't Kitchen Aid solve this problem? You have the tech expertise to make a great mixer, but after years of complaints, can't make a decent beater out of stainless steel without the chemical coated surface that chips, and ruins food as a result. After replacing twice, I now buy the hard plastic and half rubber blade from Amazon. Had one of those break, but at least I didn't have chips of paint/coating in my cake.

Flat beater

Submitted by MartinReitz - 10/20/2018

The coating on the flat coated mixing attachment for our Artisan Kitchinaid mixer is chipping off. Not good to have in your batter! I see this is a common problem. Kitchinaid needs to fix this! Our model is KSM150PSBK. The part is K5THCB. Afraid to purchase a new one since the same problem will probably occur.

Submitted by reader2 - 9/8/2018

I used this beater just three times and the porcelain chipped. I hand washed it. It would be nice if there was a flex beater available as well. As well as flat beater made of aluminum in stead of enamel that chips. I love my mixer, but not this attachment.

Top coating chips

Submitted by txbaker41 - 4/15/2018

I purchased my Kitchenaid mixer about 2 years ago and I noticed the paddle began to chip away after a year of usage. Even though i am very careful about washing it and not using any type of scrubber on it, it has continue to chip away. Please find a different material to coat your beater! For the amount of money I paid for my mixer, I would expect the beater to be made of better quality materials!

Submitted by ktutt - 1/13/2018

I am a food and nutrition teacher and care for 5 tilt-head mixers. All but two of these beaters have chipped in the last 3 years. They do get a lot of use, but not as much as you would think. I wish there were an alternative for replacement, such as a stainless steel beater, that will not chip. I have not had any problems with the dough hooks or metal whips that come with them. We NEVER put these in the dishwasher, always hand wash them. Poor design of the coating.

Chipped beater

Submitted by TAM71 - 12/21/2017

It sounds like this is a common problem with the beaters and dough hooks that are enamel coated. I found the chip laying on the counter, from the flat beater, and I haven't even used it once. I've only owned the stand mixer for less than a month! Just wrote to Kitchenaid in hopes that they will take care of it promptly. Of course, that doesn't help me with Christmas baking this weekend! I love the mixer but can see problems with any parts with enamel coating down the road!!!!

Please offer a Stainless Steel version

Submitted by Jibber - 12/21/2017

I have the white coated flat beater and it ruined a batch of Russian Tea Cookies we were making. It had about an inch of the coating peeled off into the cookie batter. Luckily my sister in law has the same mixer so I headed over there and borrowed her beater. I checked it out before we started, no chips! So we made the full batch with no issues. On the second batch, the coating chipped! Luckily we caught it early enough so I could pick out the pieces and not ruin another batch. What other options do we have? The pewter/aluminum paddle that turns everything black? KITCHENAID, Please make a stainless steel version for the 5qt mixer!

Chipped enamel coming off beater and dough hook

Submitted by SueNY - 11/21/2017

I love love love my KitchenAid mixer, but I've had it only about 4 yrs., and the enamel recently starting chipping and flaking off my flat beater. Tonight I was making homemade rolls for Thanksgiving, and after using the dough hook, I took it off the mixer to wash and saw that there are several areas of missing enamel. Couldn't take a chance that it might be in my dough, and now I have to replace both the flat beater AND the dough hook because I don't dare use either. I'm so disappointed and thought the quality of the attachments would have been better and longer lasting.

KitchenAid Coated Flat Beater chips too easily

9/15/2017

Yesterday the Attachment Hub loosened and fell into my zucchini bread batter, initially unnoticed by me. As the beater hit it, it unbalanced the mixer bowl and I quickly shut the mixer off, discovered the problem and removed the Hub from the batter. Unfortunately I didn't notice until washing it that, in coming into contact with the flat beater for even a brief period of time, it had chipped off a 1/4" section of coating on the bar. Had to discard the batch as there is no information regarding the composition of the bar coating, and can't imagine it is anything we would want to consume. A better design would be plain stainless steel or aluminum, yes? Or something that cannot chip.

Chipped Beater & Whisk Attachment

9/13/2017

I got my second Kitchenaid Stand Mixer as a wedding present. After a few months of use, one day while I was making whipping cream, I noticed that there were weird metallic colours in my whipping cream. To my shock, my beater attachment's paint had worn off and now was going into my food. This was the same case for my whisk attachment. Some dark metallic paint (?) was rubbing off from the whisk attachment! I don't know what they changed but my first Kitchenaid Mixer (from 8+ years ago!) has had no problems like this new one! Ugh!

Chipped off paint is hard to chew but has no real taste

Yikes!! Third replacement paddle beater all because of chipping paint. We could put a man on the moon surely Kitchenaid can keep the paint on the paddle and not in my food! Come on Kitchenaid, fix it!

Chipping

8/22/2017

I only used this two or three times and the beater chipped. I bought this mixer for my bed and breakfast and couldn't serve coffee cake to guests with enamel shards in it. Very disappointing.
